This year was another visit to the Caribbean. This time (last time was in 2012 in the Eastern Caribbean) was to the Western Caribbean. Ports to be visited on this trip were Cozumel Mexico, Belize, Roatan Honduras, and Costa Maya Mexico.

The route of the cruise took us from the port of departure at New Orleans, down the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico. The trip down the river to the mouth to the Gulf is an eight hour run. The ship left the pier at 4 PM and it was well dark before we reached the mouth of the Mississippi River.

The first full day of the cruise was a sea day. We would not arrive at our first port of call until the next day. That was at Cozumel Mexico.

This trip was different in that rather than just Sandy and I, this time our son, daughter in-law Brian and Michelle and our grandkids Alyssa, Kevin, Matthew, and Alexis came along. Brian and Michelle had cruised on their honeymoon but this was the first time on a big ship for the grand kids. They immediately took to the idea of cruising and loved it.
The camera equipment used on this trip was the Canon 5D MKII dSLR.. Lens used was Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM.. Also used was a Canon PowerShot G12 camera. Sandy used this camera for above water shooting and I used it in the Canon WP-DC34 underwater housing for kayaking and snorkeling shots.
I welcome comments and questions.

Our arrival in the parking lot at the Port of New Orleans.

Heading to the port building to check in before boarding.

On the gangway to the ship. Officially on board now.
First meal on board is lunch in the Garden Cafe buffet dining room.

It's a long way down to the water. Kevin looks over the rail of our cabin balcony.

Alexis is happy to be here. This is going to be a new adventure for her.
Exploring Promanade Deck. The Crystal Atrium. Deck six and seven. Grilling out on the pool deck. Our pier mate Carnival, will follow us down river but that's the last we saw of her as her itinerary looked to be different from ours.

Exploring the decks prior to departure from the pier.

We have now pushed away from the pier. Now the ship will be turned around so that we are headed downriver to the Gulf of Mexico. Sights of the New Orleans waterfront. Sights of the New Orleans waterfront. Sights of the New Orleans waterfront.
Sights of the New Orleans waterfront. Sights of the New Orleans waterfront. Historic St. Louis Cathedral. Sights of the New Orleans waterfront. All down the river we saw freighter ships anchored along the side of the banks.
One of the many ferry ports carrying car traffic from one side of the river to the other. An hour and a half away from the pier we can still see the New Orleans skyline.   It is growing dark but we are still very far away and several hours away from the mouth of the river.
A little time spent on the aft deck looking at the sunset and what little we can still see of the riverbanks. End of first day. Day Two. Alexis is eager to begin the first full day at sea. The two boys shared our cabin with us. A little TV time prior to leaving the cabin to check out the activities offered on deck today.
Looking out the cabin to the balcony. Our first full day on board, first dinner was in Azura main dining room. We soon found that the grand kids much preferred the variety of the buffet dining room so for the rest of the trip our dining was in the Garden Cafe buffet dining room. We will all get into the picture.
We will all get into the picture. We will all get into the picture. We will all get into the picture. We will all get into the picture.
The first of our towel animals when we arrived back at the cabin at the end of the day. Arriving at Cozumel the next morning. Ready to go ashore as soon as the ship is secured at the pier and they give us leave to go ashore.
