Anne of Green Gables - Visit to Prince Edward Island
In the late summer of 2014 my wife and I visited the Canadian Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Once we arrived on beautiful Prince Edward Island, one of our destinations was to visit the part of the island made famous in the novel Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery. We had neither one yet read the books (the story is in a series of books) and though we had heard the name of the story and knew that it was set on Prince Edward Island, we knew virtually nothing about the story.
We visited the location where the story was set and the area in which the author lived when she wrote the story. This is on the northern shore area of the island. We spent a little while touring the site before heading on our way on our continuing trip around the island. Yes, of course we did find the site appealing and romantic in spite of having only a hint of what the story was all about. We even enjoyed a bottle of Raspberry Cordial. Don't know what that is? I'll leave it to you to find out for yourself. Sorry.

After we returned home we obtained the series of books and read them. Our regret is that we had not read the books prior to the trip. To have done so would have allowed for an even greater appreciation and understanding of the settings of the story we saw but did not actually realize the significance of.

Toward the end of our finishing the books in the series (there are eight books in the series) we bought the boxed set of the videos. On DVD.

If you have not yet read the books, and whether you have seen the video series or not, the books will give you a more intimate look into the story, I really do recommend doing so. We wanted to watch the video series but wanted to wait until after we had finished reading the books to watch them. Having read the story in book form first, actually helps bring the on screen presentation of the story to life in greater detail.
